What am I like as a counselor?

  • I’m warm, personable, and unintimidating.  Every counselor says they are “empathetic” and “listen.”  People say that about me, too.  But I also hear, “I’ve never told anyone this before” and “You are the first person to ever tell me that…(fill in the blank)’ I’m smart, ‘I’m deserving,’ or ‘I’m strong.’”

  • We’ll get to work.  I’m patient and flexible, yet focused, and I want us to get on a clear path toward your goals, quickly and effectively.

  • I have a lot of tools, tricks, and strategies up my sleeves based on my years of experience and love of professional training.  Together we'll find what works for you and throw out the rest.

  • I do my own personal growth work.  I wouldn’t trust a counselor who doesn’t do their own work (and neither should you).  Some of my best clinical learning has come from my experiences working on myself.

  • I don’t expect to be a great fit for every single person who calls me.  If I’m not a match for you, I will refer you to other supportive resources.  Research shows that the most important factor your outcome in therapy is that you feel your counselor is the right fit for you.  That’s my number one priority.

  • I appreciate laughter, humor, and even sharing recommendations for good music, TV, books, and podcasts.

  The Important Academic Stuff

  • I have a Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from Seattle University and graduated in 2004.
  • I am licensed to practice in Nevada #CP0093 and Utah #14214908-6004.
  • I hold two additional certifications for my specialties:
  • Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP)
  • Certified Clinical Telemental Health Professional (CTMH)
  • EMDR Trained.
  • I serve as the Vice President of the Nevada Board of Examiners for Marriage & Family Therapists and Clinical Professional Counselors.

LAND

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I wish to acknowledge that my practice is located on the sacred ancestral land of the Nuwuvi, or Southern Paiute peoples, in the region that is now known as Las Vegas, Nevada.  These Indigenous peoples have stewarded this land for thousands of years, with deep respect and reverence for its resources.  I am grateful for the opportunity to live, work, and learn on this land and I acknowledge the continuing contributions and teachings of these Indigenous communities.

I recognize the ongoing effects of colonization on Indigenous communities and all marginalized people who have suffered from historical and ongoing trauma.  As a counselor, I am committed to creating a culturally responsive, inclusive, and welcoming practice for all of those who have been impacted.  I seek social justice and I support Indigenous communities in their fight for self-determination, sovereignty, and cultural preservation.

Let us all move forward with deep respect for the land and the Indigenous peoples who have called it home for generations.
